Lori Squires, Owner
Lori Squires started her career as a credit investigator with a local bank. Based on her strong leadership and organizational skills, she quickly moved into management positions. To maintain her working knowledge of all things financial, Lori obtained her certificate in accounting in 1997 from Manchester Community College. She simultaneously began taking on clients in 1996 for her own business, “Lori’s Bookkeeping Services” located in Manchester, Connecticut.
Through the years “Lori’s Bookkeeping Services” flourished, outgrowing one office after another and in 2008, “Lori’s Bookkeeping Services” became Comprehensive Business Solutions dba CBS Bookkeeping. Through her hard work and dedication CBS Bookkeeping experienced exponential growth expanding it’s services throughout all of Connecticut and parts of Massachusetts. CBS Bookkeeping became an established name and developed a strong reputation as Connecticut’s premier Bookkeeping Service.
In 2013 Lori sold her business for one, single motivating reason … her family. She and her husband packed up and moved down to North Carolina where her children had since resided and took on her exciting, new role as a ‘Nana’.
That same year she opened Accounting by the Books LLC in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a Bookkeeper in Charlotte, It is truly Lori’s passion to help your business succeed and prosper, her business has been built on the same philosophy she has always carried: “hard work, dedication, kindness and honesty”.
Mike Squires, Owner
Mike joined Accounting by the Books after a long career in transportation as a truck driver. When he and Lori decided to move to North Carolina, he made a career change to help establish, grow and manage ABTB.
Mike plays an essential role behind the scenes by assisting with company operations and, of course, QuickBooks. Mike is hard working, detail oriented and dedicated to the success of both ABTB and each and every client.
Josh Squires, Operations Manager
Born and raised in Connecticut, Josh Squires launched his career at Comprehensive Business Solutions, where he worked as an accounting associate from 2007 to 2010.
In January 2018, Josh accepted a remote accounting position for ABTB during his brief stint living in CT. He returned to Charlotte with his new wife in June 2018, serving as a full-time associate where he would manage client files and assist with the firm’s daily operations.
After two years managing client files, Josh was promoted into the role of General Manager. His role was no longer only managing client files, but also to make sure that the office ran smoothly and efficiently. Over the last year Josh’s bookkeeping load has declined, but his duties as General Manager have increased significantly. He is now responsible for running the office and managing all the employees. With his great personality and desire to help small businesses succeed, he is an asset to ABTB.
Maureen Riley, Administrative Assistant
Born and raised in New York, Maureen moved to South Carolina in December 2019. She had been an administrative assistant for 13 years prior to continuing her career with ABTB.
Maureen began working at ABTB in January 2020 and has been an asset since day one. Her main role is to support the accounting associates, the general manager, and the owner. Maureen has shown considerable interest in bookkeeping so while she continues to assist in the day-to-day operations as well as supporting the associates… She is also learning the client files while also becoming a proficient bookkeeper using QuickBooks. Maureen’s get-it-done attitude plays a significant role in the success of ABTB. We are happy to have her as a part of our team.
Deserey Rivera, Accounting Manager
Deserey moved to Charlotte in 2015 from upstate New York and brings over 15 years of accounting and bookkeeping experience within areas such as real estate, construction, medical, non-profits, and other small businesses. She also has substantial experience with payroll and sales tax. She previously worked for CPA firms where she was able to gain knowledge as it pertains to taxes as well. She is a QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor as well as being proficient with QuickBooks desktop and enterprise solutions. Deserey well versed in Microsoft office and bill.com. She is also fluent in Spanish!
Kari Anderson, Lead Accounting Associate
Having worked for CPA firms as well as Non-Profits, Kari brings over 7 years of experience in bookkeeping and accounting to Accounting By The Books. She is proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, Intacct, and has some tax experience as well. Kari joined the ABTB team in April 2019 and after working as an accounting associate for just over two years, she was promoted into an accounting team lead role. Her organizational skills and her knowledge base make her a great fit for being a team lead. We are excited about her new role and how it will continue to grow ABTB.
Tania Gallagher, Accounting Associate
Tania is passionate about aiding small business owners with their financial needs. After working in bookkeeping for 7 plus years, Tania decided it was time for a change and began working for Accounting By The Books, LLC. Tania has significant experience in the construction industry and has been involved in all aspects of bookkeeping functions. As her skill set grew at ABTB, we quickly realized that Tania had a knack for entering and processing payroll. She has since become our payroll specialist while also maintaining her client load. Tania has been using QuickBooks since the beginning of her career and is proficient in both versions (desktop and online).
Tania has a B.S. in Psychology and Postbaccalaureate Certificate in Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also received her master’s in finance from Pennsylvania State University.
Sue Markowski, Lead Accounting Associate
Sue has loved working with numbers ever since she started counting cash register drawers while closing each night at her first job. She went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and has gained experience working in restaurant and real estate bookkeeping, office management, and even ran her own business doing small business bookkeeping and taxes.
After 15 years as an accounting manager for a commercial plumbing contractor and a steel fabricating company, Sue relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. In August 2019, Sue began working for ABTB and has been a blessing since day one. After two years of hard work and great leadership, she was promoted into an accounting team lead role.
Angela Bellocchio-Myers, Accounting Associate
After doing an internship for an accounting class in high school, Angela decided to pursue a position at her mentor’s award-winning family firm. During her time there, she enhanced her skills, built her career, and helped multiple small businesses grow and thrive. In May 2020 Angela joined the Accounting By The Books team. She and her family moved to the Charlotte area from her hometown of Anderson, SC. Angela is a quick learner, she adapts well to change, and brings a fun and energetic personality to our team. She came equipped with 12 years of experience in payroll, sales tax, and working in QuickBooks. She is excited to bring her accounting knowledge and positive personality to the ABTB team.
Anna Nowakowski, Accounting Associate
Anna joined Accounting By The Books, LLC in February 2021 bringing over 15 years of experience working in the accounting field. Most recently she worked as an accountant for a property management company in the Philadelphia area for 2+ years. Anna decided it was time for a change and moved to Charlotte, NC in 2020 and thus far, is loving it. Her quick wit and attention to detail makes her a seamless addition to the ABTB team. Anna is proficient in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office as she has worked with them throughout her accounting career. Anna is enjoying being a part of ABTB’s talented team and is very excited to share her knowledge and experience with Charlotte area businesses.
Marie Doody, Accounting Associate
For over 20 years, Marie has worked within the accounting field in industries such as engineering, construction, and retail just to name a few. She decided to expand and sharpen her skills here at Accounting By The Books, LLC in August 2021. She is highly experienced in QuickBooks and is experienced in NetSuite as well. Marie is incredibly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about helping business owners with their accounting needs, allowing them to successfully grow and manage their company. Having worked for small companies throughout her career, Marie is a great fit to the ABTB office culture.
